Water activities in Rodrigues?
Sprinkled with twenty islands, its marine surroundings abound with fishy funds and still hide very healthy corals. The island offers various diving spots: coral gardens, passes, or caves for experienced divers.
The quality and diversity of big game fishing spots also allow you to try out many techniques and to fish more than 25 different species. For the main ones: blue marlin, black marlin and sailfish.
What to do on the island of Rodrigues?
A paradise for hikers, Rodrigues is an island that is easy to discover on foot.
4 kilometers to the west, ile aux coco is a must visit during a stay in Rodrigues. This immaculate sandbank, classified as a nature reserve, has the air of paradise with its whiteness and the transparency of the waters that border it. Its name does not mean that there is coconut on the island, it is that the island is covered with bird eggs and you have to be careful when walking. For bird watchers, the site is home to thousands of seabirds such as white terns and noddis.
The reserve François Leguat is also an interesting visit. This huge reserve is home to turtles that live in a protected area and managed by enthusiasts.
Caverne Patate, in the island's southwestern corner, is an impressive cave system with a few stalagmite and stalactite formations. Visit is by guided tour, during which a guide points out formations with uncanny resemblances to a dodo, Buckingham Palace and even Winston Churchill! The 700m tunnel is an easy walk.
Anse bouteille |
If the eastern part of Rodrigues is his crown, Trou d'Argent and Anse Bouteille are undoubtedly the jewel. Beaches of white and golden sand, green nature, turquoise blue water that does not need a camera filter to enhance it. Places that must be protected at all costs, but also discover. By taking the road to St-François or passing through Graviers, for the more adventurous, simply follow the "clues" as an explorer to reach your destination. No risk of getting lost.

"Rodrigues ile durable''
Rodrigues has been working for many years to become a 100% ecological island. Several measures have been taken to achieve this goal, such as the ban on plastic bags, the switch to green energy and, more recently, the installation of a sorting bin. In this respect, Rodrigues also deals with its coastline. Here, the harpoon is forbidden, no jet ski and only one beach is allowed for the practice of kite surfing. In order to preserve the lagoon, the Regional Assembly of Rodrigues closes and periodically reopens the fishing of octopus.
Freedom to live without fear
In Rodrigues, it is impossible to take a step without seeing the sea. Besides, fishing is one of the main economic activities of the island.

Story & intro about Rodrigues
Rodrigues Island
Natural jewel dotted with mountains, valleys, lagoons and caves, Rodrigues is the smallest of the three islands of the Mascarene island.
Located 650 km north-east of Mauritius, Rodrigues owes its name to the Portuguese navigator Diogo Rodrigues, who is credited with his discovery in 1528.
Rodrigues is home to 42,000 inhabitants on 108 km². Rural and authentic, it is a small piece of land crossing a car in just 30 minutes. The capital, Port Mathurin, is a strategic place for Rodriguans.
